With an engineering business pretty much founded on engines and drive train components rescued and adapted from abandoned ex military equipment following WW2, Jack Tidd forged an enviable reputation for repowers and crane. In 1967 Jack brought 3 partners into the business, Norm Todd and Jim Ross of Cambridge, and Dave Carden from Putaruru.
With his own Crane Hire business, and engineering company Southside Engineering, Dave Carden brought his innovative flair to Jack Tidd Ross Todd.
Kaimai Tunnel supports being fabricated at Southside Engineering. At the height of production the factory produced a completed support every 7 minutes
